Moringa seeds — “ben oil”

Moringa oleifera seeds are among the richest in oil of all tropical plants — 36 to 42% of the dry seed. The extracted oil is known as “ben oil”, referring to its characteristic behenic-acid content (9%). Oleic acid (omega-9) is the dominant fatty acid at 65–75%, giving it excellent oxidative stability — ben oil is known for not turning rancid.

In protein terms, whole seeds contain 29% protein with 7 essential amino acids — notably isoleucine, leucine, arginine, glycine, glutamine and tyrosine. A study published in the journal OCL (Oilseeds and fats, Crops and Lipids, 2021) confirms this data on the composition of the various parts of Moringa oleifera.

The seeds also contain a natural non-protein flocculant used to purify low-turbidity water — an application recognised for decades in areas with limited access to drinking water. TchadAgriSourcing offers whole seeds or powder, sourced directly in Chad. COA provided.

Industrial applications

B2B uses.

Ben-oil extraction

Raw material for extracting moringa oil (ben oil) by cold pressing. Yield 36–42%. A stable oil that does not turn rancid. Cosmetic and food use.

Cosmetics — Perfumery

Ben oil is traditionally used in perfumery as a fixative base for volatile aromatic compounds. Also used in hair and body care.

Food supplements

Seed powder rich in protein (29%) and 7 essential amino acids. Raw material for capsules and protein nutraceutical formulations.

Water purification

The seed cake contains a natural flocculant for purifying low-turbidity water. A recognised and scientifically documented application.

Pharmaceutical R&D

The seeds contain several isolated active compounds including pterygospermin, kaempferol and quercetin. Raw material for research laboratories.

Soap making & lubricants

The “moringa acid oil” from the seeds is used to make soap and as a natural industrial lubricant. A documented traditional industrial use.
